German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has commissioned the 92-MWac Gazules solar photovoltaic power complex in Cadiz province, southwestern Spain, completing its largest solar project in the country, the company said on Wednesday.

The complex consists of two solar farms -- Gazules 1 and Gazules 2 -- with a capacity of 46 MWac each, featuring approximately 240,000 bifacial modules installed in an area spanning a total of 140 hectares (345.9 acres).

Gazules injected first power into the grid in February. The plants became fully operational in April following a gradual commissioning, RWE said.

"The expansion of our solar business in Spain has accelerated significantly. In less than two years, we have installed more than 550,000 solar modules on the Iberian Peninsula and increased our capacity to 300 megawatts. […] With the 'Gazules' photovoltaic project we have commissioned our largest Iberian solar plant to date," commented Robert Navarro, President and CEO of RWE Renewables Iberia.

RWE currently operates seven large-scale solar farms in Spain and Portugal, alongside 500 MW of onshore wind power capacity.

The company has also entered into a partnership with Spanish sustainable infrastructure and mobility operator Ferrovial SE (BME:FER) to develop floating wind projects in Spain’s waters.
