UPDATE: Please note that campus is closed Monday so there will be no meeting held Monday. Letter to the Editor

As a taxpaying American, don’t you love it when Washington D.C. politicians use your tax dollars to do favors for their friends and colleagues?

I’m assuming you do, because that’s exactly what Jared Huffman is doing, and 75% of you voted for him.

Meet Ciara Emery.  Ciara is RWE’s “Local Government and Stakeholder Engagement Manager.” That’s a fancy way of saying, she’s a lobbyist.  Now why would this European based company pick Ciara Emery as their lobbyist here in Humboldt County?  Because she previously worked for Jared Huffman of course!

Yes that’s right, the nearly half billion dollar wind farm that is headed our way courtesy of Congressman Jared Huffman is really nothing more than a Federally Funded handout to one of his good friends and former employees.

Sure we’ll get actual jobs eventually.  Sure we’ll have (some) energy produced eventually.  But Ciara is the person who is benefiting right NOW, and she is one of the people who will continue to benefit throughout this project.

So how do you feel about this clear conflict of interest with Jared Huffman and his employee-turned-lobbyist friend Ciara Emery?  Does this change how you view the legitimacy of the project?  I think we are all seeing the red flags now as select local individuals are preparing for lavish vacations (“planning trips”) at taxpayer expense.  I think every intelligent person at this point has to really take the time to ask, if Jared Huffman is willing to do favors for Ciara Emery, what else is he willing to do, and what is the true value of this project?  I’ll give you a hint, it’s not about bringing jobs or clean energy to Humboldt County.  It’s about money…

There will be a meeting Monday, April 29th from 5-7 p.m. at Cal Poly Humboldt, BSS, Room 166 if you wish to make your voice heard.

Have a great night everyone!

Jason Brisendine

Note: Jason Brisendine ran as a candidate against Rep. Jared Huffman in the last election.

Oh that’s a great place for a meeting.

And most lobbyists have a connection to a politician. Nothing new there.

Your letter sounds like a personal issue.

Floating turbines are a waste of resources. The whole wind project is not the way to go, in my opinion. However, one former employee going to work for a company that’s doing business in her former employer’s district is not a scandal. Grow up.

Agree. There are lots of reasons to oppose the wind project but someone changing jobs is not one of them.

The letter writer makes incendiary charges without a scintilla of evidence to back them up.

People either like Huffman or not based on his politics and positions on the issues, but he has more personal integrity than all his detractors added together.

If you consider one of those fluorescent yellow slime molds you see growing on downed logs in our local forests. having integrity, then I agree. However, he has no integrity because he is just a goofy attorney from Marin county representing uber rich Democrat snobs and assorted burned out deadheads with dough. He has no ties or understanding of our two counties up here, and simply could care less. This is proven by the fact he won’t locate these scam windmills off pt Reyes, Stinson beach, or the Golden Gate. He dumps them up here on us because his real constituents in Marin county would dump him in a second if he tried that off their coast. So no, he has less integrity than a slime mold.

Thanks, Al, but we need evidence, not accusations. So, how do you know about his integrity? Why are windmills just scams?

How do you know it’s a waste of resources? What is wrong with wind power? We need to know, not just accusations, but evidence.

Has anyone done any study regarding sand flows and how having a massive project driving hundreds if not thousands of pilings into the sea floor will affect it? Those peninsulas need sand flow to remain. There needs to be a study done on how this will affect the flow of sand around the north and south spits of Humboldt Bay before this project moves forward. Disruption of sand flows do wild things in terms of erosion, it happens very quickly, and changes can occur many miles from where the disturbance of the sand flows occur.

These will be floating- and will be 20 miles offshore.
They will not be using pilings like the anchored systems use.

Im in the 25% of the voting block. I see scandal and dishonesty in All of Jars statements. The voters who vote for these progressives dems are not understanding what is going on. The whole country is on the brink of totalitarian takeover by the progs. Just look at the effort of the Trump persecutions. All lies. But Biden is guilty of way more and he is just too old to be prosecuted…….

Nothing in your comment has anything to do with salmon.
“The whole country is on the brink of totalitarian takeover by the progs” is just another of your nutty, confrontational, demonstrably false statements. Disagreeing about political issues is fine, but you’re making wild, blatantly untrue claims without ever backing it up with a single shred of evidence.
I don’t know if you actually believe this crock or if you’re just lying, but either way, you’ve been badly wrong in literally every single comment I’ve ever read on this site.
You have no credibility.

I say FOUL. No one but Republican Conservatives and our criminal former worst President EVER are the biggest lying pigs in Washington D.C.. The likes of Mitch McConnell, married to a Chinese native who makes frequent trips to China and talked Arnold into buying cheap steel from China when the Bay Bridge was repaired that had to be replaced with U.S. steel because the Chinese steel was unstable, radical Rand Paul, Mexican Ted Cruz, Crazy Lindsey Graham, John Kennedy, Marko Rubio are their poster representatives. And there are Representatives who are worse. Remember the two worst Governors of California were Ronald Reagan and Pat Brown less we forget Crooked Dick Nixon California Representative and Senator. And we should remember Earn Warren the worst of the worst. All ass kissing Republicans on the dole from Lobbyists. And the actual worst potential wannabe Benito Mussolini is running for another term as President and has already made claims how he will strip the Constitution of rights, cut Social Security and Medicare, Cut taxes of the rich and is lobbying the Supreme Court to make him not responsible for any crimes he WILL commit as President including having his selected henchmen assassinate people he feels are against him. Trump is as dangerous as any dictator from the past 100 years. And your worried about Huffman. You can’t see the forest for the trees.

Um, I hate to disillusion you but Pat Brown, Jerry Brown’s father, was a Democrat. That lack of accuracy kind of shades the rest of your diatribe.

OH reality, you are so well read of the liberal manifesto aren’t you? But, if you could see the real reality of current political history you would know the progressives have lied to you for years.
President Trump, like President Regan, is the only one who is not in the political club. Under Trump we had no wars. We had a great economy. We owed nobody.

Trump bombed Somalia more than any other president. Supported the Arabian bombing of Yemen in the same way Biden is supporting Ukraine against Russia, and presided over one of our worst military defeats in history when he assassinated General Salami of the IRGC. Trump spent more money than any other president in history besides Joe Biden. That $6 trillion he spent is where a vast amount of this inflation we are dealing with came from. Biden made it worse by spending $7.3 trillion. Trump is second only to Biden in terms of spending. Trump is responsible for 1/6 of the ENTIRE $34 trillion deficit that we have. And he tried to warpspeed us. Well he actually did warpspeed a lot of people, I just didn’t fall for it. Drain the swamp said Trump as he appointed the literal swamp, Christopher Wray, John Bolton, Anthony Fauci. The only thing Trump did that was impressive was he managed to deport less illegal aliens than Obama. That’s impressive, The Grand Cheetolini really had to work hard at that one.

Never voted for him, never will. He’s tied to way to many really bad apples. He’s got less integrity than most. His motto is screw you any way possible so he can get ahead. If he promotes something, it’s reason enough to oppose it, because what’s good for the majority of people doesn’t make him enough money. Total garbage.

Let’s hope attempts to obtain the half billion private financing required to match taxpayer subsidy just flounders and the project dies quietly instead of tripling our electricity rates. Let’s not forget there’s another billion or so needed for new power lines over to the Valley. Are pg&e ratepayers expected to pay for that too?

Gavin announced his new battery this week, only issue it will only power 500,000 homes for 1 hour and the battery only last 20 years and it takes 10 years of mining and production to make this battery. So every 20 years the battery will need to be replaced what happens to those batteries after 20 years. There’s also an issue with the amount of land need and what happens when one catches fire?
This plan is not thought out well and gavin could careless he’ll been long gone by the time these issues arrive.

Nothing more than a half-Billion $ handout to one person, a former employee? Gosh, thanks for the intel, the heads up, on this blatant example of super high-dollar corruption! But really, thanks for … unhinged thinking, and the online reaching-out to others with similar, dangerously silly views.

Grace, either we connect to wind and solar OR
we allow off-shore oil derricks.
I’ve seen the intro of oil derricks,
I welcome the concept of wind energy as
the alternative.

There is a lot of oil off the Northern California coast.
Trump proposed opening our coast to drilling back in 2018. https://www.statesmanjournal.com/story/tech/science/environment/2018/01/04/oil-drilling-oregon-washington-northwest-trump-proposal/1005548001/
Just because that proposal didn’t go through doesn’t mean it isn’t something to be vigilant about.
Investing in renewables will negate the “need” to continue to look for new sources of fossil fuels.

BOEM made the site selection for the wind farm lease based on wind data, not congressional lobbying. The harbor of Humboldt Bay was chosen because of deep water port, open land for development and no bridge impediments for delivering towers offshore. Again it was not a congressional decision. Congress approved a grant to develop this project based on economic data not on our local congressional representation.

I’m surprised that one or more environmental organizations haven’t challenged this project. Of course it may be a bit too early to do so. Given the impact on whale migrations and other marine mammals, based on the negative experience with wind farms off the Massachusetts coast why haven’t such challenges already been made?
