Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has continuously undertaken several initiatives to promote awareness on health issues in an effort to improve the lives of communities living across its areas of operation. Upholding this commitment, Tata Power's Industrial Energy Limited, a joint venture of Tata Power and Tata Steel, organised an awareness rally on HIV / AIDS on World AIDS Day in Kalinganagar.

The objective of this initiative was to inform and educate the community especially the youth on the perils of the disease, causes and precautionary methods. More than 300 college students along with college staff and IEL volunteers attended the rally. The rally started from Duburi College Campus and ended at Duburi Chhack, covering a total of 2kms. Each participant held placards with a preventive message on HIV AIDS. The initiative also included an exhibition of drawings to spread awareness among Students. First thee Students awarded with trophy by the Chief Guest of the Occasion Sri Asim K De, Chief Corporate Operation (Thermal), Tata Power.

Sri Asim Kumar De, Chief Corporate Operation (Thermal), Tata Power joined in the programme as Chief Guest of the occasion and told that the subject is very sensitive needs to be handled carefully and it's impact on human health is critical. Corporate Leaders', Bearcats, Political Leaders, Plocy Makers and NGO representative should come forward to create awareness among general public which is the only way to prevent HIV.

Mr. D.K Sahoo, Group Head - CSR spoke on the role and responsibility of the students to prevent HIV/AIDS and create awareness among the general public.The programme was presided by the Principal of Kapileswar Mahabidyalay, Duburi.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr Vijayant Ranjan, CEO, IEL & Chief Kalinganagar Station said, 'We, as a responsible company firmly believe that spreading awareness about sensitive issues like AIDS among the community will help and benefit our society as a whole. HIV/AIDS is a deadly disease and it is very important to sensitise people about its prevention and eradication. Students and youth today play a major role in the society and, so we undertook the initiative to spread this message for them and through them. We are glad to see the positive response from all the participants and hope to continue organising such initiatives in the future for the betterment of the society'.

The participants at the rally included Odiya cinema actress Ms. Chandini Jena, employees of IEL, Kalinganagar Sri B. C Mahi, B.P Praharaj, Sanjay Sahoo, Rashmi Pattanayak, Subrat Roy, College Students, CAAD (NGO) representatives and some of the local youth participated in rally. Above rally witnessed by more than 1200 people in both side of the road and Duburi market.
