PLANS for a new wind farm between Dalmellington and New Cumnock are set to reach their next stage.

Vattenfall has been developing plans for the South Kyle II project over the past two years, including taking feedback from local communities throughout the design process.

The facility would be located on land adjacent to South Kyle Wind Farm, the major project inaugurated by the same developers in 2023.

First proposed in early 2022, plans for South Kyle II Wind Farm were then revised from a 17 to a nine-turbine layout with exhibitions held locally in November that year.

Since then, the proposal has undergone further rigorous review, taking on board local feedback, stakeholder input and extensive environmental data.

This process identified two additional wind turbine locations within the site thus increasing South Kyle II Wind Farm’s potential to generate renewable energy and community benefits.

Vattenfall now says planning proposals will be submitted to the relevant local authority in the coming weeks.

A spokesperson said: "We hope to take the next step - submitting the proposals to planning - in the coming weeks.

"South Kyle II focusses heavily on generating work and supply chain opportunities for the local area, and over recent months we have continued to put in the groundwork to raise awareness of onshore wind opportunities for local businesses and local people."
