Kansas, April 4

Kansas at the Adler Theatre -- April 4.

Wednesday, April 4, 8 p.m.

Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Appearing locally in the musicians' “Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour,” the legendary progressive rockers of Kansas take the Adler Theatre stage in an eagerly awaited April 4 event, filling the venue with selections from the group's multi-platinum-selling albums that include the iconic “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind.”

Fusing the complexity of British prog rock with an American heartland sound representative of its name, Kansas formed in Topeka in 1970, the group's founding members – guitarist Kerry Livgren, bassist Dave Hope, and drummer Phil Ehart – having first played together while in high school. With the 1971 addition of violinist Robbie Steinhardt and the 1972 arrivals of vocalist/keyboardist Steve Walsh and guitarist Richard Williams, Kansas spent the early part of the decade touring relentlessly and struggling for recognition, eventually establishing a strong-enough following to win a record deal with the Kirshner label and release the band's self-titled LP debut in 1974. Following that album's moderate success, 1975's Masque sold a quarter of a million copies and 1976's Leftoverture catapulted Kansas to stardom on the strength of the smash hit “Carry on Wayward Son,” reaching the Billboard Top Five and selling over three million copies. Released in 1977, Point of Know Return was even more successful, earning quadruple-platinum status and spawning the monster hit “Dust in the Wind.”

Kansas appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. “Carry on Wayward Son,” meanwhile, was the second-most-played track on U.S. classic-rock radio in 1995 and number one in 1997, and to date, Kansas' discography consists of 15 studio albums, six live albums, seven compilation albums, and 25 singles. Released in 2016, Kansas' most recent album The Prelude Implicit stands as the band’s highest-charting release since 1986's Power, and boasts the same lineup of talents scheduled to play the Adler: Ronnie Platt on lead vocals, Billy Greer on bass and vocals, David Ragsdale on violin, Zak Rizvi on guitar, David Manion on B3 organ and keyboards, and original bandmates Phil Ehart on drums and Richard Williams on guitar.

Kansas' April 4 concert starts at 8 p.m., admission is $40-95, and tickets are available by calling (800)745-3000 or visiting AdlerTheatre.com.
